Calligraphy 101

Calligraphy is defined as elegent handwriting using brush or pen. In this class we will focus on using felt chisel calligraphy pens to learn the basics of european pen based calligraphy. We will go over setting up your page, basic shapes and angles to use, finding resources, and start practicing a Gothic quadrata hand.

• Paper, ideally Rhodia (or similar calligraphy paper to prevent feathering
• Dot or graph paper
• Chisel (not brush) felt pen - i.e., elegent write from speedball, zig calligraphy marker, Itoya Profolio
• Pencil
• Scrap paper
• Ruler

Ages 13+, younger students may join with assistance from an adult.
