Seasonal Block Prints on Fabric

In this class students should expect to carve one large stamp and several smaller stamps during the class based on their carving experience. Students can plan to use a fabric dye ink pads, acrylic paint, or oil based relief ink, all methods will be explained to cover all options. Patterns for a simple drawstring bag in addition to instructions for making a hand-sewn and machine sewn pamphlet style journals. Prior to class, students should brainstorm what design they would like to print (snowflakes, candy cane, trees, snowman, holly, angel, stars, bells, bows, jolly sayins, etc.) Designs should be between 2 to 6 inches big depending on the detail and your carving ability, bring sketches or copies of your designs to transfer in class. Supply list:

• Pre-planned designs
• 2H to 2B graphite pencil and fine tip Sharpie or other marker
• Speedball Speedy Carve block at least 4x6in 
• Linoleum carving tools
• Brayer - 4in
• Acrylic paint, Memories Dye Ink Pads, oil based relief inks, or Speedball fabric ink
• Small piece of plexi glass, mylar, acetate, or disposable palette to use as an inking station
• X-acto knife
• Baren or wooden spoon
• Newsprint or copy paper for covering surfaces and test prints
• Various fabric items such as, canvas makeup bag, plain tea towels, and/or natural plant based fabrics
