Chine-Collé Intensive

The Chine-Colle Intensive will be a two day intensive course on carving and printing relief print blocks and utilizing Chine-Colle practices to add color to the compositions. Intaglio practices will be demonstrated and discussed as well because relief printing is more accessbile to print at home. The traditional Chine-Colle techniques utilizing rice flour and water will be demonstrated. We will be using PVA glue or stitching the scraps of colored rice or other speciality paper in place for an overview of modern and non-traditional methods. We will discuss the creative choice of whether your design will look better with organically tearing or strategically trimming the speciality paper before placement and printing.

Supply list:

• Pre-planned designs
• 2H to 2B graphite pencil and fine tip Sharpie or other marker
• Tracing paper
• Speedball Speedy Carve block at least 6x12in or battleship gray linoleum 12x12in
• Linoleum carving tools
• Brayer - 4in
• Small piece of plexi glass, mylar, acetate, or disposable palette to use as an inking station
• X-acto knife
• Baren or wooden spoon
• Relief printing ink
• Newsprint or copy paper for covering surfaces and test prints
• Strathmore 400 Series Printmaking Block Paper 11"x14" in or 4 sheets of Legion Stonehenge in color of your choice 22"x30" in
• Black Ink Thai Unryu Paper or Lotka Paper
• PVA glue and glue brush
