Criss Cross Binding (Secret Belgian)

05/22/2021 01:00 PM - 05:00 PM ET

Description

In this one day online workshop, we will be sewing up the cover and pages for the popular Criss Cross Binding, invented by Anne Goy. Being an online class, students will be required to do some preparation work in advance of the class, but the construction of the binding will all be guided. Starting with two pre-covered boards and a pre-covered spine piece, the cover is constructed. Then we will sew the pages into this cover structure. Because the cover and pages are two separate steps, this binding has the unique opportunity to switch out the pages if the interior is filled! This allows a book artist to use special cover boards over and over again. Ages 18 and up.

To be prepared ahead of the class (upon enrollment, instructions on how to prepare these will be provided to you via email):

  • 2 cover boards: 8 3/4" x 5 3/4" can be covered in paper or plain
  • 1 spine piece made from board: 8 3/4" x 5/8" can be covered in paper or plain
  • Interior pages - each section should have 4 pieces of 8 1/2" x 11" text stock folded in half along the grain - prepare 8 (you may only use 7, but prepare 8) and put them under weight to flatten out any air from the fold
